Worst of all, Australia is cut into pieces. In the Berghaus star, there are sharp discontinuities in the lines of longitude and the outer lines of latitude are not circular. The Curved Star is very like the Berghaus star projection but I prefer mine. If you look through the lists of projections on the web, there isn't such a projection. ![]() And it would be nice if it fits in a "portrait" or "landscape" picture frame. We want the continents not to be cut into pieces. ![]() We want the North and South hemispheres to be roughly the same radius so that the equator is half way from the centre to the edge. We don't want a projection in which the South pole goes off to infinity. So we want the North pole at the centre (or the South if you prefer). We need a projection in which the equator is a circle and the continents retain their familiar shapes. You can skip this Step if you're not a fan of the maths of map projections. There are lots of popular (and some weird) map projections available.
